Diabetes Education Classes

Each Diabetes Education class consists of five, two-hour classes. The sessions are offered during the day from Noon to 2 pm, and again in the evening from 6 to 8 pm. Registration is required. A fee is included and will be billed to your insurance. Our certified diabetes educators cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Diagnostic criteria
  • Self-management skills
  • Causes of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and treatment
  • Meal planning including a personalized meal plan and buffet dinner
  • Pharmacy lecture
  • Risk factors for complications and strategies to avoid complications

Pre-Diabetes Classes

Pre-Diabetes classes are appropriate for you if you have not yet been officially diagnosed with diabetes, but have a fasting glucose of 100 to 125. In this two-part class, the first part includes information on physical activity, promoting weight loss, meal planning and blood glucose monitoring. The second class reviews meal plans, food labels, shopping for and preparing healthy meals. The second class is optional; however, you must take the first class before taking the second class. Registration is required. The fee is $40 for the complete program or $20 for class 1 only.

Support Groups

Our Diabetes Services offers Adult Diabetes and Insulin Pump support groups for both patients and family members who are living with diabetes or using an insulin pump. If you are interested in joining a support group, please call Diabetes Services at 215.345.2168.

  • Diabetes Support Group meets monthly except June, July and August.
  • Insulin Pump Support Group meets every other month, except July and August.

Diabetes Education Appointments

Individual, one-hour appointments are available for instruction on glucose monitor use, insulin or other injectable administration, gestational diabetes and insulin pump initiation. A fee is associated with the appointment and is billed to insurance. Insulin pump instruction generally requires multiple visits.

Inpatient Diabetes Education

For inpatients at Doylestown Hospital, a diabetes consult can be ordered by a nurse or physician. Consults are individualized, and experts advise you or your family members on home glucose monitoring techniques, insulin administration, and signs and symptoms of hyper- and hypoglycemia.
