The power of positive affirmation is so simple that one might be forgiven for trying to make it more complicated than it actually is. A positive affirmation is exactly as it sounds: short motivational phrases or statements that, when reinforced daily, become a self fulfilling prophecy.

While there is no "magic" behind the the effectiveness of using positive self-talk, there is science that supports the principle that "self-affirmation activates brain systems associated with self-related processing and reward and is reinforced by future orientation." 1
